About the Project & Artist

Lu Zhao (she/they) is China-born London-based writer and multimedia participatory artist.

ESEA Hair Archive is a multimedia oral history project to document stories, memories and experiences about our hair, exploring identity, beauty, migration, gender, queerness, growth, and belonging among ESEA women and queer community.

Is there a hair moment you'll never forget? Is there a haircut that marks a significant moment in your life? Is there a hair-related saying, idiom or slang in your language that means something more than hair?

You don't need a dramatic story. Sometimes the smallest memories stay with us the longest.
